The Nicaragua La Estrella comes from 126 small scale producers located in the department of Nueva Segovia approximately 150 miles from Nicaragua’s capital, Managua. This region is very close to the border of Honduras and is part of the Cordillera de Dipilto Nature Reserve. The reserve is a place rich with biodiversity of flora and fauna. The name Estrella comes from the Beneficio La Estrella, the coffee wet mill founded in 2013 in Ocotal. Nicaragua La Estrella is comprised of coffee from producers in different municipalities around Nueva Segovia such as Macuelizo, San Fernando, Mozonte, and Jalapa. The Nicaragua La Estrella is consistently one of our favorite coffees each year with layers of sweetness, a syrupy body, and sustained complexity across various roast styles. This year, lighter roast styles produced notes of vanilla, citrus, nougat, honey and a touch of lemongrass with a juicy body and balanced acidity. When taken further in the roast this coffee has a thick body and lasting sweetness with notes of baker's chocolate, crème brûlée, toasted walnut and s'mores. While this coffee works great in all brew methods, it is our go to for a sweet and pleasing batch brewed coffee.
